June 29 - Lakeview OR

Spent most of the day today going through the Oregon high desert - so called because you are traveling at 4000 - 5000 feet and see only miles and miles of sage brush. On the right were spectacular mountains with flat tops … on the left, a series of very shallow lakes whose surfaces were smooth as glass. Apparently these lakes were once part of an ancient lake. We saw dry lake beds, as well, which reminded all of us of Holes.

No Starbucks in sight. No Wi-Fi. And not a single Sprint tower.
