July 5, 2004
Yesterday, we had a very nice day for my birthday. First, we did a two hour hike in the heart of the Grand Tetons. We took the boat across Jenny Lake (I got a postcard for niece Jenny), hiked up to Inspiration Point from where, after having been inspired, we decided to walk back to the boat dock. All in all, a two hour hike, which pushed the kids’ limits, but they were very kind in giving this to me as one of my “birthday gifts”, in addition to the gifts the girls gave me in the morning (thank you, Sue and Phil, for the wonderful cologne … somehow it seemed out of place in the RV park, but will be put to good use back home!).
The kids got their horseback ride, and then I got a fabulous birthday dinner in the elegant, hundred-year-old Lake Hotel.
Today, we spent the day touring Yellowstone, which is really quite amazing. I don’t know what was my favorite - whether it was the astonishing canyon, the geysers (yes, we waited to see Old Faithful), or the hot pots. I know -- it was the gurgling, burbling mud pots. Quite luscious.
Tonight we are in the King of RV parks. Not only does this park have it’s own fire pit and picnic table at each RV spot, it also has a swinging chair. Central amenities include an indoor pool, a small miniature golf range, rent-a-funny-wheeled-vehicles, and a gigantic store. We’ve really hit the big time.
Oh, I almost forgot. This RV park has Wi-Fi. Back to civilization. Still no Starbucks.
